Overview
The Jangseong Hwangryonggang River Autumn Flower Festival is set against the backdrop of the 3.2-kilometer-long Hwangryonggang River. The festival features gardens where visitors can admire a variety of autumn flowers, such as cosmos and zinnias. This festival allows visitors to observe the changing seasons up close as they stroll through the gardens along the riverside and admire the flowers within them. It also features hands-on activities for visitors to participate in, as well as performances by local artists and invited singers, making it a festival that welcomes people of all ages. Getting there from Seoul
Jangseong is in Jeonnam, close to Gwangju, and sits on the Honam KTX line, so a KTX from Seoul (Yongsan/Yongsan area stations) to Jangseong Station takes roughly 2 to 2.5 hours. From Jangseong Station, the festival grounds along the Hwangryonggang River are a short taxi or local bus ride away. An express bus to Jangseong or Gwangju, followed by a local transfer, is an alternative if KTX schedules don't fit.
Tips
- Admission is free, so budget mainly for transport and food.
- Festival hours run 10:00 to 22:00; wear comfortable shoes for the riverside garden paths.
- October evenings can be cool, so bring a light jacket if visiting after dark.

Earthen Vessels: Stories of Our Lives is a special exhibition held at the National Gwangju Museum. By looking back at earthenware, a type of pottery which has been at the core of our daily lives for a long time, we can encounter the practicality, aesthetic sense, and the stories contained in the earthenware that has been passed down through tradition. This exhibition showcases over 300 artifacts, including a ribbed bottle and large jars excavated from the Cheonghaejin site in Wando.
