Overview
The Gimje Horizon Festival is Korea’s only Honorary Cultural Tourism Festival dedicated to traditional farming culture, as designated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Centered around Byeokgolje Reservoir, Korea’s oldest and largest irrigation facility, the festival celebrates the nation's rich farming heritage. Set against the region's expansive horizon, the festival features the Presidential Cup National Nongak Competition, along with hands-on agricultural experiences such as cooking rice over a traditional wood-fired stove, catching grasshoppers, and harvesting rice. Visitors can also take part in traditional events, including the Byeokgolje Twin Dragon Play, inspired by a local legend, and the Ipseok Tug-of-War for a bountiful harvest.

Getting there from Seoul
Take a KTX from Yongsan or Seoul Station to Iksan Station, then transfer to a local bus or taxi to Gimje and on to the Byeokgolje Reservoir festival grounds. Alternatively, an intercity or express bus from Seoul's bus terminals runs directly to Gimje Bus Terminal, from which the site is a short local bus or taxi ride away.
Tips
- Festival grounds are spread across Gimje around Byeokgolje Reservoir, so plan for some walking or local transport between venues.
- Entry is free but some individual experiences and activities carry separate fees, so bring extra cash.
- Hours run 09:00 to 21:00; arrive early if you want a good spot for the Nongak competition or Twin Dragon Play.

Details for the 2026 festivals will be updated as they become available.*Imsil N Cheese Festival is held every fall in Imsil, the birthplace of cheese production in Korea, at Imsil Cheese Theme Park and Imsil Cheese Village, which are proud symbols of the region. Visitors are greeted by the aroma of delicious cheese as they wander through the beautiful chrysanthemum flower garden with millions of blooms. The festival features more than 10 main themes and 70 programs centered around cheese, offering a rich and diverse experience.
